Driver assistance

Official safety recall2022Campaign 22V239000

Stability control system may not respond correctly

The Skid Control ECU software may not turn on the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system when the vehicle is restarted after the driver has disabled the VSC system.

NHTSA campaign 22V239000 includes certain 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vehicles. Toyota Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022 Lexus LX 600, Lexus NX 350h, Lexus NX 450h+, Toytoa RAV4 Hybrid, 2021-2022 Lexus LS 500h, Toyota Mirai, RAV4 PRIME, Sienna, Venza, and 2020-2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid vehicles. The Skid Control ECU software may not turn on the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system when the vehicle is restarted after the driver has disabled the VSC system. Driving with a deactivated stability control system increases the risk of a crash.

Symptoms to compare
  • A stability or traction-control warning may appear, or the system may intervene incorrectly
  • An open campaign appears when the complete VIN is checked
  • Some recalled vehicles may show no advance warning before the component fails

Other ways owners describe it: traction control warning light; stability control stopped working; car skids too easily; ESC unavailable message; traction control activates unexpectedly; stability system recall.

Which vehicles the source covers
  • 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
  • NHTSA campaign 22V239000
  • The manufacturer filing lists 458,110 potentially affected units across the complete campaign.
  • VIN eligibility determines whether this recall applies to an individual vehicle

Safety recall eligibility is based on the VIN and campaign scope, not ordinary warranty mileage. Check the complete VIN even when the vehicle is outside its original warranty.

Fuel system

Customer support program published2019, 2020

Fuel gauge does not read full after refueling

A gauge that stays below full after refueling is the clearest sign in Toyota's RAV4 Hybrid fuel-tank program; fill amount still needs to be checked.

Toyota documented a refueling performance condition on certain 2019 to 2020 RAV4 Hybrid vehicles. The company linked it primarily to variation in fuel tank shape and the possibility of the fuel sender gauge becoming inclined. This can affect the indicated fuel level, but it is not the only possible reason for an inaccurate gauge or short driving range.

Symptoms to compare
  • The fuel nozzle automatically clicks off but the gauge displays less than full
  • The amount dispensed during a normal fill is less than expected
  • The displayed distance to empty is lower than expected after refueling
  • The low fuel warning may appear while more fuel remains than usual

Other ways owners describe it: gas tank will not fill up; fuel gauge never shows full; pump clicks off too early; RAV4 only takes nine gallons; distance to empty is too low; fuel light comes on with gas left; range drops after filling up.

Which vehicles the source covers
  • Certain 2019 to 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vehicles
  • Campaign and production VIN criteria apply
  • The program does not apply to the non-hybrid RAV4

Customer Support Program 20TE04 stated coverage of eight years from first use or 100,000 miles, whichever came first. Current eligibility and any later program changes need to be checked by VIN with Toyota.

Manufacturer position and diagnosis

Toyota's campaign procedure uses vehicle data and a controlled refueling test to confirm the condition. Depending on the production VIN, the published repair replaces the fuel tank, the fuel sender gauge, or both.

Check the VIN and complete Toyota's refueling testToyota dealer procedure · Inspection plus parts-dependent repair

Ask a Toyota dealer to check the VIN against 20TE04 and follow T-SB-0109-20. A qualifying vehicle may need its tank, sender gauge or both replaced after the condition is verified.

Limit: A matching model year alone does not establish eligibility or identify the required part.

Document one normal refueling cycleBasic observation · One refueling stop

On level ground, photograph the gauge and distance-to-empty before and after filling until the nozzle first clicks off. Keep the fuel receipt and note the amount dispensed for the dealer.

Limit: Do not keep topping off after the nozzle clicks. Stop immediately if fuel spills or a strong fuel smell develops.

Mirrors & visibility

Manufacturer documented2019, 2020, 2021

Side mirror image vibrates at highway speed

A door-mirror image that shakes around 50 to 70 mph is the specific condition behind Toyota's reinforcement procedure.

Toyota documented vibration or shaking of the image shown in the exterior mirrors on some 2019 to 2021 RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid vehicles. The bulletin is limited to a condition reproduced at roughly 50 to 70 mph on ordinary paved roads. Other causes, including loose glass or collision damage, still need to be ruled out.

Symptoms to compare
  • The reflected image shakes or becomes difficult to read at highway speed
  • The concern appears in one or both exterior mirrors
  • The mirror housing may appear normal while the reflected image vibrates

Other ways owners describe it: side mirror shakes on highway; wing mirror blurry at speed; rear view in mirror vibrates; door mirror wobbles; RAV4 mirror buzzing; cannot see clearly in side mirror.

Which vehicles the source covers
  • 2019 to 2021 Toyota RAV4
  • 2019 to 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
  • The bulletin requires the specified driving condition to be confirmed

Toyota's bulletin is based on model year and a reproduced symptom, not a mileage threshold. Warranty coverage, if any, depends on the vehicle's in-service date and current status.

Manufacturer position and diagnosis

Toyota instructs technicians to confirm the mirror image vibration, fit longer mirror mounting studs and add reinforcement bracket extensions with specified adhesive. Both exterior mirrors are repaired under the procedure.

Confirm the condition and reinforce both mirrorsBody or Toyota service technician · Workshop repair plus adhesive cure time

A Toyota technician reproduces the specified vibration and, when the bulletin applies, installs longer mounting studs and door-panel reinforcement extensions for both mirrors.

Limit: The bulletin specifies panel adhesive, threadlocker, torque values and curing time. It is not a simple mirror-glass replacement.

Check the glass and housing while parkedBasic observation · 5 minutes

With the vehicle parked and switched off, gently check whether the glass is seated and whether the entire housing is visibly loose or damaged. Note which side is affected and the speed range at which the image starts shaking.

Limit: Do not film, touch or adjust the mirror while driving. Have a passenger record the symptom if a video is needed.

Symptoms to compare
  • Vibration, pressure loss or visible damage may occur, although the condition can also appear without warning
  • An open campaign appears when the complete VIN is checked
  • Some recalled vehicles may show no advance warning before the component fails

Other ways owners describe it: tire keeps losing air; wheel feels loose; tire sidewall problem; car shakes at speed; TPMS warning keeps coming on; wheel recall.

Visibility & cameras

Official safety recall2023, 2024, 2025Campaign 25V744000

Rearview camera image may not display

A software error may cause the rearview camera to freeze or display a blank screen when the vehicle is in reverse.

NHTSA campaign 25V744000 includes certain 2023 to 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vehicles. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2026 Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru Solterra vehicles equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. A rearview camera that fails to display an image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Symptoms to compare

Confirm who pays before authorizing work

A recall remedy follows the campaign and VIN eligibility. A service bulletin provides diagnosis or repair instructions; it does not by itself promise payment. Manufacturer warranty extensions and support programs have their own conditions.
