What the Toyota records can tell us
Our Toyota database covers 23 nameplates: 4Runner, Avalon, C-HR, Camry, Corolla, Corolla Cross, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Prius, RAV4, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, Crown, Crown Signia, GR86, Grand Highlander, Mirai, Venza, Yaris, bZ, bZ4X. Across 191 model-year entries, it contains 19,228 owner complaints. We do not know how many vehicles were on the road, so the count cannot tell us the share of vehicles with reported problems.
Unknown Or Other appears most often among the tagged components, with 3,261 mentions. A single complaint may name several components. Check that system's contract terms, while keeping in mind that the count does not show how likely a repair is.
Across the same model years, NHTSA records show 581 recall campaigns and 29,450 manufacturer communications. Recall repairs are handled separately from a paid service contract, while communications include far more than defects.
