California repair coverage has different buying rules.

Purchases through Chaiz are unavailable to California residents. You can still use our research and calculator, then compare a dealer service contract or mechanical breakdown insurance through the appropriate licensed seller.

Chaiz terms, section 14 state that its products are not currently available to California residents; browsing partner offerings is separate from buying through Chaiz.

First identify the type of agreement

The California Department of Insurance distinguishes vehicle service contracts backed by a provider, dealer-obligor contracts and mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI). The legal party responsible for paying covered repairs is the obligor. Your rights depend on the agreement and that party, not the label “extended warranty.”

CDI says to buy a vehicle service contract in person from a DMV-licensed dealer and warns against buying one by phone, mail or online. MBI is insurance sold by licensed insurers and insurance agents. Verify the seller and product before paying. CDI's repair-agreement guide explains the distinctions and exceptions.

Compare the actual protection

For each eligible offer, write down the total premium, deductible, covered components, excluded failures, payment limit and end date or mileage. Ask whether diagnosis and teardown need approval and who pays when a repair is excluded. Use that same information for each comparison.

Our cost calculator can compare chosen scenarios. It does not decide whether a California product is legal, predict a claim or supply an insurance quote.

Verify the seller and keep the paperwork

Follow the license and complaint links in our California state guide. Ask for the legal business names, the full agreement and its California amendment. Keep the signed documents and written cancellation instructions. Do not assume a sample form published for another state gives you the same refund rights.

If an unsolicited caller says your warranty is expiring, check your existing documents before responding. Our warranty scam checklist explains how to verify the message and report a suspected scam.
