What published prices can tell you
The FTC describes service-contract prices as ranging from several hundred to several thousand dollars. Vehicle eligibility, covered systems, term and deductible can all change an offer.

The page's selected-state examples and payment-term conditions matter: this is not a quote for every driver, or proof of the cheapest available contract. Ask for an itemized offer for your car.
Lowest published examples and what they exclude
Chaiz's Express Enhanced Powertrain example is $55 to $100 a month on a three-year payment basis, not a price guaranteed for your car. Express advertises entry up to 20 years and 150,000 odometer miles, with options adding up to 100,000 covered miles.
The January 2025 Enhanced Powertrain sample excludes Nissan CVTs and the hybrid battery. Standalone seals-and-gaskets coverage requires the applicable surcharge, and breakdown coverage waits for both one month and 1,000 miles. A low advertised payment cannot compensate for excluding the repair you want covered.
Monthly price, payment term and coverage term
A hypothetical $80 payment for 36 months totals $2,880. If the quote also requires a $200 deposit, its price is $3,080 before financing or claim costs. Do not multiply that payment by five years unless the agreement actually requires 60 payments.
Protection might continue after the last installment, or a monthly product might work differently. Ask for two separate dates: when your final payment is due and when coverage ends. Also check whether the mileage limit means the odometer reading when coverage expires or additional covered miles.
A five-year budget is not a five-year quote
Our calculator starts with five years and lets you choose one through seven. It multiplies a published repair-and-maintenance average by the selected period. Where only a brand or all-vehicle average is loaded, the result says so rather than inventing a model-specific forecast.
The calculator starts with a hypothetical $2,500 full premium. That amount is independent of the selected car and years; it is not a provider price or evidence that the term is available. Replace it with every required payment and finance charge for a real agreement covering the period you want to compare.
What you pay after buying the plan
Two approved repairs with a $100 deductible add $200 to your cost. Maintenance, excluded components and work above the plan's labor or payment limits stay with you too. A covered repair does not necessarily mean the entire invoice is paid.
For illustration, a $3,000 premium plus $200 of deductibles and $700 of uncovered work produces a $3,900 outlay. Compare that with what the same repairs would cost without the plan. If no covered claim occurs, the premium remains an added expense rather than a saving.
Get the quote that answers your question
Use the same year, make, model, mileage, state and desired coverage period for every comparison. Ask for the current sample contract, total payment schedule, waiting period, claim cap and cancellation terms. Separate optional extras from the base price.
Rule out plans that do not cover your concerns before sorting the remaining quotes by cost. If price is the main constraint, compare focused powertrain coverage with a repair fund. If you need expensive electronics protected, compare broader agreements.
