Buying a vehicle service contract in Texas

Check the provider and administrator in TDLR's licensing database under Service Contract Providers. Registration and financial backing do not establish that your specific repair is covered.

For contracts bought on or after January 1, 2012, cancellation before day 31 returns the purchase price minus paid claims, with no cancellation fee. From day 31, the refund is prorated using the contract's disclosed remaining-term measure, minus paid claims; a reasonable cancellation fee cannot exceed $50.

The provider must refund or credit the amount before day 46 after receiving cancellation notice. Late refunds incur a 10% monthly penalty on the outstanding amount. Keep proof of the notice and follow the agreement's cancellation instructions.
