Buying a vehicle service contract in Kentucky

Kentucky's automobile-guaranty statute excludes a service contract from insurance when its provider has the required reimbursement insurance policy. The insurance requirement has an exception for vehicle manufacturers, distributors and their wholly owned subsidiaries.

Check the legal provider and the reimbursement insurer rather than applying Kentucky's separate rules for other consumer products to a car contract. The Attorney General accepts consumer complaints and mediation requests; insurance-policy questions can be directed to the Department of Insurance.
