Buying a vehicle service contract in Kansas

Kansas insurance filing guidance says service contracts covered by K.S.A. 40-201a are exempt from Department of Insurance regulation. That category includes agreements to service, repair, replace or maintain specified property components.

Do not equate an insurance license with approval of a separate service contract. Keep the full agreement and cancellation terms, and use the Attorney General's consumer complaint process for suspected deceptive business practices. An insurance policy sold alongside the contract is a separate product.

Check with Kansas Attorney General.
