State contract rules

Buying a vehicle service contract in Idaho

Idaho's Motor Vehicle Service Contract Act has a limited scope. The Department of Insurance lists manufacturer warranties, maintenance agreements, mechanical breakdown insurance and theft protection warranties as outside that act.

The department directs consumers to the Attorney General for most service-contract matters and handles certain motor vehicle contracts itself. Send the actual agreement to Consumer Affairs to confirm the right route. An exclusion from this particular act does not mean a product has no legal requirements.

Check with Idaho Department of Insurance Consumer Affairs.
