Buying a vehicle service contract in District of Columbia

DC requires service-contract providers to register. For contracts within the general rules, a consumer who requests the terms before purchase must receive a complete sample or a link to one.

The general cancellation rule allows the original purchaser to return the contract within 30 days of mailing or delivery at sale for a full refund if no claim has been made. Later cancellation uses the unearned prorated fee, less paid claims and a permitted administrative fee of up to 10% of the gross fee. Motor vehicle manufacturer contracts have specific scope exceptions; check the applicable form.
