Manufacturer file
What the Tesla records can tell us
The Tesla file currently stops at 4 nameplates: Model 3, Model S, Model X, Model Y. Those 36 model-year entries contain 11,763 owner complaints. The missing denominator matters because these records do not say how many vehicles were on the road.
Forward Collision Avoidance: Adaptive Cruise Control appears most often in the component tags, with 2,631 mentions. A single complaint may carry several tags. I use the total as a prompt to read that system's contract terms, not as odds that a repair will happen.
Across the same model years, NHTSA records show 466 recall campaigns and 2,873 manufacturer communications. Recall repairs are handled separately from a paid service contract, while communications include far more than defects.
