What the Tesla records can tell us
Our Tesla database covers 5 nameplates: Cybertruck, Model 3, Model S, Model X, Model Y. Across 43 model-year entries, it contains 12,582 owner complaints. We do not know how many vehicles were on the road, so the count cannot tell us the share of vehicles with reported problems.
Forward Collision Avoidance: Adaptive Cruise Control appears most often among the tagged components, with 2,730 mentions. A single complaint may name several components. Check that system's contract terms, while keeping in mind that the count does not show how likely a repair is.
Across the same model years, NHTSA records show 503 recall campaigns and 2,948 manufacturer communications. Recall repairs are handled separately from a paid service contract, while communications include far more than defects.
