Official safety recall2015, 2016, 2017Campaign 19V149000Exterior lights may not operate correctly
Exposure to certain contaminants may cause the brake light switch to malfunction, preventing the brake lights from illuminating and also preventing keyless ignition vehicles from starting and CVT/automatic transmissions from being able to be shifted out of Park.
NHTSA campaign 19V149000 includes certain 2015 to 2017 Subaru Crosstrek vehicles. Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Forester, 2008-2016 Impreza sedans, 2012-2016 Impreza station wagons, 2008-2014 WRX sedans (including STI), and 2013-2017 Crosstrek vehicles. Brake lights that do not illuminate properly will not alert other drivers that the vehicle is slowing or stopping, increasing the risk of crash.
Symptoms to compare
- One or more exterior lights may fail, flicker or operate incorrectly
- An open campaign appears when the complete VIN is checked
- Some recalled vehicles may show no advance warning before the component fails
Other ways owners describe it: headlight stopped working; tail lights stay off; turn signal flashes wrong; lights flicker while driving; brake light not working; lighting recall.

Limit: Do not buy parts from the campaign description alone. VIN scope, superseded remedies and parts availability can change.
Enter the 17-character VIN in NHTSA's recall lookup and ask the manufacturer or an authorised dealer to confirm whether the campaign is open for this vehicle.
Limit: A year, make and model match does not prove that every vehicle is included. The VIN result controls eligibility.

Confirm who pays before authorizing work
A recall remedy follows the campaign and VIN eligibility. A service bulletin provides diagnosis or repair instructions; it does not by itself promise payment. Manufacturer warranty extensions and support programs have their own conditions.
Compare recalls, bulletins and warranty extensions →Keep a current problem separate from future coverage
These files do not supply a shop quote. Ask for a diagnosis and written estimate, then check recall remedies or existing coverage. A new vehicle service contract generally excludes pre-existing conditions.
Prepare a useful description for the mechanic →Each file retains its original source review date. Historical remedy wording can change; check the current manufacturer notice and NHTSA VIN lookup for your vehicle. The separately dated NHTSA counts elsewhere on this page use a different dataset and scope.
