Electrical or software fault may disable vehicle functions

The software design of the communication module may fail to communicate the correct vehicle location for the emergency call system (eCall) in the event of a crash.

NHTSA campaign 21V058000 includes certain 2017 to 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class vehicles. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2016 - 2021 CLA-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, GLS-Class, SLC-Class, A-Class, GT-Class, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLS-Class, SL-Class, B-Class, GLB-Class, GLC-Class, and G-Class vehicles. Please refer to the Part 573 report for specific vehicle model details. Failure of the eCall system may result in emergency responders being dispatched to the wrong location, increasing the risk of injury following a crash.

Symptoms to compare
  • Warning messages, a blank display, a no-start condition or loss of a vehicle function may occur
  • An open campaign appears when the complete VIN is checked
  • Some recalled vehicles may show no advance warning before the component fails

Other ways owners describe it: dashboard lit up with warnings; car electronics stopped working; screen keeps rebooting; car will not start after update; electrical problem with no warning; software recall.

Which vehicles the source covers
  • 2017 to 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
  • NHTSA campaign 21V058000
  • The manufacturer filing lists 1,292,258 potentially affected units across the complete campaign.
  • VIN eligibility determines whether this recall applies to an individual vehicle

Safety recall eligibility is based on the VIN and campaign scope, not ordinary warranty mileage. Check the complete VIN even when the vehicle is outside its original warranty.

Limit: Do not buy parts from the campaign description alone. VIN scope, superseded remedies and parts availability can change.

Check the complete VIN before arranging workBasic check · 5 minutes

Enter the 17-character VIN in NHTSA's recall lookup and ask the manufacturer or an authorised dealer to confirm whether the campaign is open for this vehicle.

Limit: A year, make and model match does not prove that every vehicle is included. The VIN result controls eligibility.

Evidence for this issue

Confirm who pays before authorizing work

A recall remedy follows the campaign and VIN eligibility. A service bulletin provides diagnosis or repair instructions; it does not by itself promise payment. Manufacturer warranty extensions and support programs have their own conditions.

Keep a current problem separate from future coverage

These files do not supply a shop quote. Ask for a diagnosis and written estimate, then check recall remedies or existing coverage. A new vehicle service contract generally excludes pre-existing conditions.

Prepare a useful description for the mechanic →

Each file retains its original source review date. Historical remedy wording can change; check the current manufacturer notice and NHTSA VIN lookup for your vehicle. The separately dated NHTSA counts elsewhere on this page use a different dataset and scope.

An unmatched specification is an information gap. Do not borrow an engine or drivetrain from another year.
